It’s a simple concept, really. Do what matters most to the patient, do it well, do it every time and the patient will have a better quality of care experience. That’s the foundation of patient-centered care.

NRC Picker’s Patient-Centered Care Institute is dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of patient-centered care within the healthcare industry. Members have access to leading experts, advisors and original research in patient-centered care, as well as assessments and resources for creating a patient-focused environment.

Assessments

  • The Organizational Patient-Centered Care Assessment compares your organizational structure to recommended or best practice structural attributes for creating and maintaining a patient-centered care organization and culture. Biennially, the Institute will conduct a national, normative study with Chief Nursing Officers about the state of patient-centered care enabling comparison by your organization.
  • The Caregiver Assessment: Patient-Centered Care Environment focuses on NRC Picker’s philosophy of patient-centered care, with comparisons to our Eight Dimensions of Care or HCAHPS composites. The assessment is completed by a sample of caregivers within your organization and assists in identifying barriers to creating a patient-centered care environment.

Advisors – Sources for Improvement

  • To meet our members’ needs, the Institute provides access to a select list of Advisors who are experts in numerous research areas and consulting specialties focused on excellence in providing patient-centered care. Institute Advisors are available for an additional fee to provide on-site feedback and consultation.

  • Creating a dialogue around patient-centered care is the focus of our Patient-Centered Care Symposium and programs, which feature experts and top performers who share strategies and tactics to implement in your organization. Members receive five passes yearly to attend.
